Answer» My system;
Workstation/Server based system with dual pentium III (450MHz each), DVD/CD ROMS, Floppy Drive, Xtacy Video card, 6 port USB2 expansion card, Cisco Aironet PCI 350 internal wireless card, 512MB PC100 sever RAM, SCSI 18.73GB 7200rpm HDD (Win2000), with 1 IDE WD 20GB HDD(Win98 SE) and 1 EIDE 20GB HDD (Blank I believe). The motherboard is a DELL full ATX I believe (don't know for SURE though) but it has a SCSI/IDE bus built into it so it supports both.
This computer (Workstation/Sever) was handed to me by my brother who wanted it fixed.
My question and problem;
I was working fine a few days ago the I started getting this ERROR Message:
PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, check cable
I looked int the Error and found that possible problems were bad HDD, wrong or bad cale, and/or bad or loose connections. I checked the HDD it seems to be fine cause I can feel it spinning (this is the SCSI HDD that it happened to). The cables are not damaged since they're new and all and connections are okay. Now the OS booted occasionally but now wont INITIALIZE windows 2000. The same error was happening with the HDD with Win 98 SE but went ahead and ran Windows 98 SE okay. I started with moving cable unplugging/plugging and making sure everthing was secure the I removed and put the RAM back in several times. Then I removed and put all removable hardware back in its place. Now the computer has a blank black screen and gives me a BEEP with FIVE FOLLOWING BEEPS wich tells me that there could be a motherboard problem, possibly the DMA, the CMOS setup chip, timer and/or the system bus.
I have used up all the known diagnostics to my ablility and still can figure it out. I NEED HELP, PLEASE. I would like to know if it can be fixed (if it can I'll send it in cause I don't trust myself if there is saudering involved), and if not let me know if I have to srcap it and buy new motherboard, CPU, RAM and HDD's.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :-?How much would it cost to have it repaired when you 'send' it in?
This is what I would try:
- Reset CMOS
- Replace all parts apart from the mainboard.
