Solve : ie window keeps closing?

have a dell laptop with xp and ie 8

whenever i click on the ie icon it trys to open up

only gets about 1/3 of the way there then disappears

note: this only happens when i use my own user account

logging in as a guest ALLOWS me to open ie and browse

anyone else seen this

what is occurring here
Did IE ever work? If so, what is new between the last time it worked and the first time it did not (new hw, sw, virus, error, etc)? Do other BROWSERS work (Firefox, Opera, Safari)?yes ie did work

i picked up a virus about a month ago and ever since then does not open

have run adaware, mcafee and malbytes but still no luck

Next time you POST a help request on a support forum, provide ALL information in the first post. Didn't you think we should know EVERYTHING worked fine until you were infected?u GOT all the important info

the virus may or may not be the cause

i cannot even open the ie icon to download anything
