Solve : IBM i Series 1452 laptop?

Answer»

Hey all I just got a laptop and I was wondering what OS I should put on it. I TRIED putting Ubuntu on it and Puppy Linux but it didn't want to boot the disk and I tried installing Xp but that wouldn't work either. So I was wondering if anyone has a DIFFERENT operating system I should try on it?Why dont you tell us what you have in the way of RAM, CPU Power, and hard disk space?

I have found Open SuSe interesting, Download here ) I also have a few friends who recommend Red Hat Linux (google it...)

I hear that Red Hat has great driver support, and so does Ubuntu. Just try a few, and see what you like

What happened when you tried Ubuntu?
Odly enough Ubuntu just booted for me , ERR well still in the process of booting but farthest its ever made it. So I might go ahead and just install that. The hard drive is only around 3 gigs, 128mbs ram, and not sure how much Cpu power yet.Ubuntu requires (minimum) at least 200MB of RAM, to just start the installer. 200 is the (i think) unrecommended amount for ACTUALLY running the OS. You will need to find an alternative installer if the installer wont work. Well that explains why it wouldn't instal LOL! IM trying puppy linux on it right now, im probably gonna get another stick of ram for it eventually. If worse comes to worse, you can always put win98 on it. It can run in as little as 16 megs and was probably the original FODDER for the beast. Im going to try Windows 2000 on it, and if that fails i'll put 98se on lol. By the way the laptop has 366mhz of pure processing power.I have an old IBM 390E with about the same processing speed and 256M ram. It has 2K pro on it. It is a tad slow but runs very well, and surfing/email and mundane tasks are fast enough on my DSL and router.
