[glb]Flame[/glb]Follow these steps:

1. Obtain a Bootdisk self extractor from http://www.bootdisk.com
2. Create a Boot diskette
3. Insert Boot Diskette in the Floppy Disk Drive
4. insert Diskette before turning on IBM brand PC
5. Select Boot with CD-ROM SUPPORT[i/]
-- If the computer does not load the boot diskette, load BIOS and set the first boot device to FDD
6. Type X:\.
-- Where X is the letter of your CD-ROM drive.
7. Type setup.exe
8. Follow instructions

Additional:

If the Hard Disk Drive has not yet been formatted, before accessing X:\ type Format C:\ in A:\ prompt.

If you wish to create additional partitions type Fdisk WHILST in A:\ prompt

Is this an upgrade CD or the full edition?  If you need additional assistance, you can reach me at ResourcePC.

You need to enter the bios setup screen.......by holding down keys on booting up pc.......
IBM®  F1
IBM E-pro Laptop  F2
IBM PS/2®  CTRL+ALT+INS after CTRL+ALT+DEL
IBM Thinkpad® (newer)  Windows: Programs-Thinkpad CFG
And change the boot sequence to boot from cdrom.by using the arrow keys .........on the keyboard

what message is displayed on the screen on boot.......some big firms take the hard drive out......has it got one!If your Win98 is an upgrade, you will need to provide evidence of previously OWNING  a version of Windows. It happened to me and I had an old version on diskettes which, luckily, I never threw away. I had to insert three different diskettes before it was CONVINCED that I did actually have a previous version of Windows.Have you re-partitioned it and re-formatted, or is it still formatted to NTFS? Do you know what OS it had on it before?
