Solve : How to turn off password prompts with win. 7 laptop.?

Answer»

I want to be able to open and close the lid and press the power button on and off and not be prompted for the password.Okay. What's your question?Right-click the power icon(looks like a battery) on your taskbar(to the right of it, where the notification area is) and click power options. A window will pop up. On the left, where some common tasks are, click on "choose what closing the lid does". Now look at the LOWER part of the screen, you'll SEE "password protection on wakeup". Change the setting to "dont require a password". If the options are greyed out, make sure youre logged in as an Administrator. Then click save CHANGES button.Quote from: maximdymok on October 08, 2010, 08:09:19 PM

Depending on what proprietary software is installed,(this is likely since it's a laptop.) then that won't work, please let us know if it works or not.Quote

He's got it. I know about the power options page. This is a Toshiba Satellite L505. I still like to do this if possible. Is what I'm trying to remove called the Bios password? I searched "remove password L505" and a couple of different combinations and most of the results are about people who don't know the password or who bought the item from someone else and again want to GET around this. I just want to remove the screen. When I go to Bios menu and choose edit it asks me to enter a new password. Nothing about removing the screen. Unless enter nothing does that. And some stuff about removing the CMOS (I think) battery. I don't think I want to do that.A BIOS password shows up before the Windows splash screen...if you don't know the password there is no way around this except taking it to a Service Center...be prepared tho show Proof of Ownership or they will not do it.Here's the screen I would like to get rid of.

[regaining space - attachment deleted by admin]OK good...thats not a BIOS password...

# In the run menu type control userpasswords2.

# Just press WIN + R to get the RUN menu.

# The user accounts windows will now open up.

# Look for the OPTION saying " Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer " and uncheck this option and press "OK".

# Now a windows opens up asking you to enter the current password you use to log in to Windows 7. Enter the password and confirm.
