Solve : how to deactivate Outlook auto start up? |
|
Answer» every time I enter or edit email addresses in a document or spreadsheet and click on an email by mistake, Outlook starts up. It's annoying and really slows me down. Does anyone know how to turn that off? Thank you! What Office Suite do you use?thanks for your REPLY. I use Office 2003The only thing I came across is this, if you're using Word: Highlight the whole text with your mouse. (Or, you can also press CTRL+A.)thank you very much. It doesn't seem to work. Outlook still starts up. but thanks anyway. In Word, go to Tools, Options, Edit, and check the box for "Use CTRL + Click to follow hyperlink". The same option is not available in Excel. When using Excel, if you use arrow keys to move into a cell containing a hyperlink, that will not open Outlook, as long as you don't click on the link. You can also right click on a link in Excel and select Remove Hyperlink. It will remain removed until you put the cell in Edit mode and hit Enter. Thanks a lot Soybean. Deactivating a hyperlink in a cell works fine, but it's only POSSIBLE for one cell. Most spreadsheets have hundreds of email addresses, and even though I navigate with arrow keys, it's still very likely to click on an hyperlink by mistake and set Outlook off. Happens to me all the time. I have not found a WAY to format/deactivate hyperlinks for a whole column or spreadsheet. I tried doing it in one cell, then using the format copy key to apply the same format to other cells, but it wont' take. deactivating just one cell at a time is too time consuming. If you have any other thoughts, would love to hear them. Thank again. Maybe there's a way in XP to switch off Outlook as the default email PROGRAM for all applications? Even when I click on an email address on a website, it comes up - often I prefer to use gmail anyway. I figured out how to do it: very SIMPLE: in the START menu, go to "Set Program Access and Default", which is the icon right under Control Panel in Windows XP. There, you can go to the Windows setting and change the default email program. |
