If you made a new software product and you wanted to protect it from piracy;  what would be you choice as a method of protection.

None. If you ask me, developer time is better spent adding new features than trying to add some futile protection scheme.

the idea being that one could justify ignoring piracy on the basis that the new feature could very well have attracted new customers and made the revenue stream stronger than it would have been if "piracy protection" was the feature that was added, since that has no consumer value whatsoever, and may in fact drive off potential customers. And there is the additional cost of more support as your piracy protection scheme fires off for legitimate customers.Thanks BC_programmer. Excellent concept. Developers, TAKE heed!  Many companies have spent millions (Disney, News Corp, the NFL, Time Warner, SONY, Viacom, etc.) and gotten nowhere.
