Solve : How do i delete a partition??

Answer»

Hi there,

I recently had a problem with windows xp and thought i would re-install the windows DISK to fix the problem, worried that it would delete all my photos and files i decided not to re-format and just installed a second copy on the hardrive.
Now I have saved all my information and windows is WORKING properly again i am wanting to delete the first copy of windows instalation but don't know if its possible.
Is there a step-by-step guide possibly for dummies ?

Thanks for your time
Suejust insert the xp cd in the drive and reboot/restart the computer...when it asks do a new install...NEXT it will ask if you want to delete the partition(s)   delete it and make a new partition at this point the rest is easy, follow instructions and the hard drive will be like new with a fresh install of windows.Hi LOSTCOAST,

Thanks for your advice, but i was really hoping i could delete the first instalation of windows and keep the second seeing as this one is working fine but my hardrive is in need of space and getting a little slow.

If all else fails i shall be following your advice.

Note that if you only have one partition on the disk and you delete it you will lose access to absolutely every file on the disk!!!  Deleting only the unwanted windows INSTALLATION requires a bit more care.

You need to backup your critical files (incl photos) before starting to delete system files. If it is working just leave it alone!
