Answer» Ok this is a REALLY annoying problem that I need to fix A.S.A.P. before I get entirely mad with Microsoft's generlizations on how everything "Should" Work..
Ok the problem is that with my other computer that I just reformatted and reinstalled windows on, I am trying to SETUP the internet connection like I did when I first did it though my memory is BAD and I am unsure if I am doing it RIGHT. I am trying to setup the internet and so far I see no possible way of doing it manually, everything I click about connecting to broadband without a password or screenname all it says is "" and when I try to find any way of doing it manually that seems to be the only message I find, and the most annoying part is it isn't doing it automatically like everything says!!! I've tried resetting my modem and router and this computer picked it up but not the other one... I've also tried unhooking and re-hooking up each cable and it didn't work either... I am using a D-Link DCM-201 Modem and a D-Link Dl-514 Router and though I highly doubt it will help, I am running Windows XP Professional SP1. Please help in anyways possible to tell me how I can get this to work! You most likely have to assign the Router the computer name provided by your Internet Service Provider.
Check your ISP and Router manual for further information on how to do so. This is router specific, thus I can not WALK you through it.
However, I am not certain if all cable exploitants work with a computername. You may still need to configure the Router.
If you have configured the Router and you can still not connect, do the following:
1. Start 2. Settings 3. Control Panel 4. Network Connections 5. Right click on Network Interface Card 6. Select repairOk, I think I know one of the main problems here.. The computer may not be picking up my built in modem. I have a motherboard that has the ethernet built into it and usually I can just connect the cable to that and then to the router and head off from there but I can't even access the router setup page which I am supposed to be able to do to setup the internet.Repair the connection if you are not able to access the router.
