Solve : Home Network Communication?

Answer»

Does anyone know of a program (preferably free, of course) which will allow COMMUNICATION between computers on a home network? I have a COUPLE of computers which have no Internet access, and WOULD like to be able to to send messages BACK and forth.

Yes.You might take a look at some of the offerings here. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll take a look, In the meanwhile, I have found a couple of Windows programs which are already on the computers that let me do what I want. One of the computers is running Win98SE, and that OS has a program called "Winpopup" which lets one send and receive messages from other computers without access to the internet. That was exactly what I wanted. Another computer on my network uses Win 2000, which doesn't have Winpopup, but can receive messages uising a built-in Messenger Service. It can send messages from a command prompt using a built-in command "Net Send". It's a little clumsy, but it works.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned these.

I was unaware of those options.
