Solve : Holey chip! IBM drills holes into optical chip for terabit-per-second s...?

Answer» IBM researchers have built a prototype optical chip that can transfer a terabit of data per second, using an innovative DESIGN requiring 48 tiny holes drilled into a standard CMOS chip, facilitating the movement of light. Much FASTER and more power-efficient than today's optics, the so-called "Holey Optochip" technology could enhance the power of supercomputers. LinkWow!
They are going to actually mass-produce it and put in on the marker at an attractive price. This means the fiber optical Internet and public data will become CLOSER to everyone. Optical switches have been an area of concern in fiber technology.

In perspective, Intel had some RELATE news awhile back:

But the announcement by IBM is way ahead, ... mm aaa -
one might say lights years away.
There are a few brains I'd like to try that on.
