Solve : Help. Whats wrong?????

Answer»

I am trying to install a game. I have windows XP and i am  inserting the game into the CD Drive and it auto runs then i press the install button on the game screen and a window pops up SAYING " C:\WINDOWS|SYSTEM32|AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and MICROSOFT Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application." It then gives a choice of Close or Ignore. Neither of which do anything to help.   Please can someone tell me how to install it. P.S it is compatible for XP!! as it runs on our other XP computer.Right click on the installer and click on properties.

On the compatibility tab use the win 95 or 98 tab.I had the same problem with other programs too. After repairing my Win XP this problem recovered.
That's because of your WInXP you have not installed properly or done some harm after installation.
You need to retrieve a good copy of autoexec.nt from the repair directory and install it in the system32 directory.

From the command line:

copy c:\windows\repair\autoexec.nt c:\windows\system32

OR

You can use Windows Explorer and copy the file from one directory to the other.

OR

You can use the Microsoft METHOD (XP disc needed)

Good LUCK. Thanks ever so much sidewinder. Ive managed to get it working by copying the file from the repair folder and pasting it in the system32 folder. Your help is much appriciated!!!!!
