Solve : Help installing internal memorex cd-rw drive?

Answer»

Hello, I am having issues with the installation of an internal memorex cd-rw drive. I am installing it in a compaq presario 5000. I could not find the analog audio output plug in the computer. The plug that came with the cd-rw drive has 4 holes, 1 for left channel, 2 grounds, and 1 for right channel. Can anybody GUIDE me to where this is located? Another thing, the reason I installed this new drive is because the old cd-rom was not working. After installing it, I turned the computer on and tried to add hardware and it was not found. The drive does have power though and will open the disc tray and CLOSE it. Can anyone help please. It is urgent. Thank youA replaced CD drive will not show up as new hardware.

You do not necessarily need the audio cable. First see if audio CDS play fine. The thing is the previous drive never showed on the computer. There is the floppy drive, c disk, and a d disk but the d disk looks like another hard drive. Have you looked in Device Manager? Did you remove the other drive before you installed the new or are they both still in the computer?

Alan <>< Yes, I have looked in the device manager and no cd-rom shows up. I removed the old cd-rom and then replaced it with the new one. Before I put the new one in, the old one didnt show in the device manager either though.Well, go figure.

Did you use a different data cable or the same one? Could be bad

Did you use a different power cable or the same one? Might not be getting the CORRECT / any voltage

Try changing them out one-at-a-time.

You may also have a defective IDE channel on the MOTHERBOARD.

I ended up using the new IDE cable that came with the cd-rw. I then used the end power hook up. The drive powers up and opens the disc tray and everything, just the computer isnt recognizing it.
