Solve : Help I'm mising 27GB on hard drive?

Answer»

Hi,
I recently had to format my computer.I installed  98 SE and  I  formatted the HARD drive (30 GB) and When i finished installing Windows I only have  2GB. How can I FIX this?I have a Dell  Dimension 2350.Please HELP........I want the other 27 GB....Before you reinstalled 98, did you fdisk and format the harddrive and delete all partitions? What's this 'Enabled large drive support'But if she has formatted her comp then the other option is more likely.

She might have not deleted the partitions before installing OS.Given by wrwss Quote

So how did she wind up with a 2 GB drive out of 30 GB?

Usually by not enabling large disk support before using fdisk.

FAT16 instead of FAT32.
check the bios setup.........to see what it reports......

unless you have changed hard drives.......from a 2gig......to a 30gig...........have you!?Hi,
Sorry it's taken so long to check in.....Still trying to fix things.
No I didn't down grade my hard drive,I formatted my computer with  a Boot disk called Drive Scrubber  by Iolo.I have down loaded a tool from Dell and when iI checked my hard drive with it it says 30 gb but it doesn't tell me how to get them back. Also when i check the computers properties  under hard disk it doesn't name the hard drive it just says generic type.I have a western digital is this supposed to show up in properties??Boot to your ME bootdisk and at the A:\> prompt type fdisk, and then PRESS ENTER. If your hard disk is larger than 512 MB, you RECEIVE the following message:

"Your computer has a disk larger than 512 MB. This version of Windows includes improved support for large disks, resulting in more efficient use of disk space on large drives, and allowing disks over 2 GB to be formatted as a single drive."

Do you wish to enable large disk support? Y/N

Answer Y for Yes.

Delete the partitions you see and make new ones, setting the Primary DOS partition to A for Active.

Press the Esc key until you are asked to re-boot and when the computer has re-booted format the drives you have made.

Then you can install properly.Hi,
Thanks for the reply..I'm about to attempt this again..just working up the courage.I already down loaded and burned off the drivers I needed so here goes nothing.
thanks for your help
Good luck. Let us know how you get on, if you will.
