Solve : Got a memory doozie for ya...? |
|
Answer» After I "surf" the net a few pages deep, it seems to hit the brakes. If I dump the TIFs & Cache, restart the net runs fine again for a few minutes. I have already expanded the memory what I could but the problem seems to persist only allowing me to surf further. Is there a "always clear the cache memory switch I am missing"? Already have checked the "empty TIF when browser closes" which I really doubt it does. Using XP & sadly AOL but occurs with explorer also... Yeah... I know it ain't a rocket but it took all I had to get her to agree to boost it 128M. (She was using 128). Yes problem also when I connected to AOL minimized then used Explorer. I uninstalled AOL, reinstalled it. It seems to go atleast a little further now (fingers crossed & knocking on wood) but still think there is a problem with like a memory dump or something??? Yes, scanned for all types of malware... negative. (Except AOL... ha)! What OS is installed? Less than 256MB RAM is fine for any pre-Windows XP operating system. A minimal of 256MB RAM is recommended for Windows XP. Quote I believe she said it started after AOL 9 was loaded. (Had other major problem I took care of but this one is a head scratcher errr hair puller outer). Did you configure this AOL dialer properly? How big is your page file!Sorry I thought I put that the OS was XP in the 1st Q, but it had 128 Meg. ran no prob. for her for a while. I dont recall the size of the page file but I raised it CONSIDERABLY. What is the likely hood that auto. updates from MS could have forced her to hit the brakes?Back to reality. You run fine then after a few minutes you slow down? Connect to your isp, open a page on the net somewhere then while your doing 'nothing' check to see if your computer is sending or receiving data. It shouldn't be sending or receiving anything if you aren't doing anything. She says she is send/rec. info. Which is why I QUESTION the auto. updates as public enemy #1 right now?Try turning auto updates off. |
