Solve : Geocities Bandwidth Limit? |
|
Answer» An important question: Geocities site has a bandwidth limit of 4 mb/hour. What does it mean? If i have 2 accounts as : [emailprotected] and [emailprotected] Can I download 4mb from each account or Am I to download a total of 4 mb from both accounts? ThanksUnless they specifically say that limit is per email account, I think it surely means for all activity by the user. By the way, is this the free GeoCities account? Where is the 4mb/hour limit stated? I don't see it at http://geocities.yahoo.com/ps/learn2/WhatYouGet4_Free.htmlHi Are you sure it is for all of my accounts? I need to be specific of that because i have some files in several accounts which i send to others. Yea am talking of FREE accounts. Here ARE the links: 1 2 3 In your original post, you mentioned two email accounts and said nothing about having a website. Yet, the links you provided in your last post all refer to bandwidth limitation in connection with a website. So, exactly what GeoCities services are you using? What is a bandwidth? The total amount of data you can transfer in a designated amount of time. Could I have two? Yes. Sign up two accounts, and then make two different GeoCities sites. I think this MIGHT be against the rules, so be careful! Other than that, get hosting from this place: www.mbhosting.com Quote In your original post, you mentioned two email accounts and said nothing about having a website. Yet, the links you provided in your last post all refer to bandwidth limitation in connection with a website. So, exactly what GeoCities services are you using? Hi I have not indicating about any website. I am indicating about files. Say your site contains 5 pages each of 100 KB. then total size of your site is 500 KB or 0.5 MB Now you can also upload files (like zip files, pdf files, html files etc) to your geocities site. (Note that HTML files are actually web pages) those files will have certain size) This is how I upload file to a geocities site: I first login to my yahoo account from http://mail.yahoo.com After entering my yahoo mail account, I type in address bar http://geocities.yahoo.com/filemanager Here i fill up the form ( you have to fill up the form when you are enterinf first time), then I submit the form. After that, i again type in address bar http://geocities.yahoo.com/filemanager there i click "upload files" Thus you can upload files (zip, pdf, html etc) from your computer. Now when you download those files (or tell others to downoad them), you have to limit the download size to 4000 KB / Hour (for FREE account). Means you can not download more than a total of 4000 KB from a geocities free account per hour. So what i am asking if i have 2 accounts (yahoo mail accounts) can i download 3500 KB from one account, and also 3500 KB from the other account in the SAME hour ?? {Note that if you have 2 accounts as [emailprotected] and [emailprotected] and if you upload a jpg file named picture.jpg to both account then download link for the file in [emailprotected] would be http://www.geocities.com/aa/picture.jpg and in [emailprotected] it would be http://www.geocities.com/bb/picture.jpg} Quote by zylstra555 : Quote Other than that, get hosting from this place: That link is not working. That link works for me...shouvik, I suggest you visit Yahoo's website and search for detailed information about your benefits. My ISP is Earthlink. http://www.earthlink.net/membercenter/benefits/ tells me I can create up to 8 email accounts and that I have up to 10MB of free webspace for each email address. Note that my Earthlink account is not free. If you can't find this kind of info on Yahoo's website, see whether they provide support via phone, email, or online chat. Since it's a free account, the only support MAY be what is published on the web. The key issue here, it SEEMS to me, is what CONSTITUTES an "account". Even if I created 8 email accounts with my Earthlink account, it's still part of my Earthlink account; I would not have 8 Earthlink accounts, just 8 email accounts within my Earthlink account. So, again, does Yahoo recognize the two accounts you mentioned as part of one main account, or as two entirely separate user accounts? And, is the bandwidth limitation based on email accounts or, if the two accounts are part of the same main account, is it based on the main account? I really can't answer these questions, since I'm not a Yahoo user.Geocities was a nice free host to start a long time ago. You may notice thoes annoying adverts and Yes, bandwidth limits that is not longer the todays standard BW trasfer where we use massive MB's for picture files alone. Consider getting a cheap hosting service or some other free host that's more usable in todays standard. |
