Answer» I use Windows 98 and have a dial-up connection. When I try to forward an email message I lose my connection and have to connect again. Sometimes I'm not even able to save the email I'm trying to forward. Any tips on what could be causing me to lose my connection? Thank you. :-?
JandalAre you using Outlook Express for your email?Dear Fed:
I am using Netscape to access my email. I click a Connect To Internet icon on my desktop and then double-click Email icon, which takes me into Netscape. Recently the program has started freezing up on me when I try to delete a message and sometimes before I can even read it. The dial-up connection will disappear from the screen and then I am forced to connect again. I would appreciate any help anyone can OFFER me to solve this annoying problem. Thank you.
jandalSounds like an issue to raise with your ISP. Do you ever lose your connection at other times, i.e. other than when accessing your email?Soybean... I only lose my dial-up connection when I am accessing my email. I do NOTHING else online. The problem is getting worse. Today when I tried reading my emails I lost the connection before I was able to finish. I am still hoping for a quick-fix solution or I may need to report the problem to my ISP and have them check the connection. What do you think?
jandal I believe the problem may be that your ISP does not have the capacity to serve all their customers without such interruptions. The fact that the problem is getting worse may be due to an expanding customer BASE without a corresponding increase in capacity to serve all those customers. I think you should contact them and complain about the disconnections.
If you get no satisfaction from dealing with them on this issue, I suggest looking for another ISP. I recently got my mother, who is on dialup, to switch to Earthlink's dialup service and she's pleased with it. If you'd like to see whether they have a tool-free dialup number in your area (are you in the U.S.?), go to https://myaccount.earthlink.net/cam/accessnumber.jspJust out of curiosity, is someone else in your household trying to use the phone while you are on line? If someone picks up an extension it will kill a 56K connection.I am thisclose to calling my ISP (Earthlink) to help solve this problem. I am starting to doubt that the trouble lies with my dial-up connection. I usually go online only to access my email but today I surfed the Web. The connection stayed on for the entire time. However, when I opened my email in Netscape the program froze for approx. 25-30 seconds. Then it unfroze and I was able to read a message. But this lasted only for a matter of seconds. This problem of the email program freezing and then unfreezing is very disruptive. Yet I do not lose my dial-up connection. Any thoughts on a possible solution? I thank you all for trying to help me.
jandalI have TURNED the matter over for my ISP to solve. Thank you.
