Solve : Forum Avatar?

Answer»

I have an avatar which is an animated .gif file.

I lost the original. I went to another forum where I had it working, and downloaded it by right-clicking on the avatar itself. This resulted in a file called index.PHP.

When I preview the file in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer (XP) the animation appears correctly. When I upload the file to this forum, it shows just the "opening" picture as if it was a single .gif.

Is the .php file designation incorrect?

I just tried renaming it as a .gif and uploading it with no change.

(Properties says it's a .gif)

I also tried it in Firefox, and the animation is just fine.

Is there something special I must do in order to properly upload the .gif?I think I know how to help ..we can try this spontanously.Well, that's got it just fine.

All hail to the Queen of COMPUTER Hope.

I just wonder why I have to have the .gif up on the web somewhere to get it to WORK?

I didn't have to in the past...

(The peasants are never satisfied.) Glad I could help, too bad I send all that through PM, I've seen a lot of people wanting moving avatars on CH, maybe I'll post the steps here so that everyone can have a moving Avatar.Yeah -- Nathan will love that! Hope it won't be too much load on the forum thats a nice avatar by the way Brian

Here are the steps for everyone.

1)Upload the picture you want as avatar to photobucket.
2)There you'll get an option to edit etc the image, click on skip this step for now.
3)when the image is displayed there, you'll see 4 CODES given below the image.
4)Click on the 2nd code (DIRECT link) and copy it.
5)Go to edit profile on CH and check the 'I have my own pic' option.
6)Delete the http thing given there and Paste the link copied from photobucket there.
7)Save changes to profile.

There Thank you. A tribute that pokes a bit of gentle fun at the original Star Trek from forty years ago.Not to be an ingrate, but shouldn't the file work just as well if I'm uploading from my computer? On the other forum, I had the file originating in my computer.

On CH it uploads small gif images but the larger ones don't work that way, so I just do that photobucket thing instead, I figured it out when I really wanted to put up that wolf and hand images, I think it depends on the size of the image.
