Answer» I am WORKING on a friends computer. It is a recent Gateway tower with Windows 8.1 installed. I have yet to find out why she can not get to the Internet. But I created another problem.
Because I have low-vision, I tried the ease of access in Windows 8.1 to help me. Well, that was a mistake. The display went NEGATIVE and now I can not get it back to normal after hours to trying.
This has been document, other PEOPLE have complained. Microsoft says there is an easy way to get it back to normal. Not ture. Or else I don't understand what the are saying.
I do not think the issue is unique to the Gateway desktop. Is there a way to get Wijnd0ws 8.1 back to normal display? Have you tried this?
Open Appearance Settings by CLICKING the Start button Picture of the Start button and then clicking Control Panel.
In the search box, type window color, and then click Change window colors and metrics.
Under Basic and High Contrast Themes, deselect the high-contrast color scheme that you accidentally selected. Thanks, I will tty that. You can run MiniToolbox to find problems why internet cannot be accessed.
Please download MiniToolBox to Desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following boxes:
- Flush DNS
- Report IE Proxy Settings
- Reset IE Proxy Settings
- List content of Hosts
- List IP Configuration
- Lst Last 10 Event Viewer Errors
- List Users, Partitions and Memory Size
[/b] Click Go and copy/paste the log (Result.txt) into your next post. Thanks Dave. I did download the tool you mentioned. However, I fixed the problem another way. I came across a place where Windows say I could refresh or repair the PC. Did that, and the internet STARED working again. Again, thanks. I will use the Tool Box on another PC.
