Solve : files with no extension tied to wmplayer.exe? |
|
Answer» Inadvertantly, files with no extension are now set to automatically and always open with wmplayer.exe. How can this be reset to automatically go to the "Open With" window of choices? I'm running WindowsME.just reclick the open with box to power dvd notepad or what program you are trying to use..and it it just wav files..more info...or go to wmp tools/format and untick the boxes you do not want wmp to open.?..Merlin_2...thanks for the response. I can get to the "Open With" window and can select another program without any problem. What I want to do is fix the setting. I can't find it anywhere and thus cannot reset it back to "nothing" instead of wmplayer.exe.you could try this for example in my documents folder/tools/folder options/file types tab...options are available i think you may find it hard to have nothing...if you right CLICK on the file....open with box appears and choices..if you dont want wmp to do this chose another progam..Yes, that function works fine. Of course, there is no "file type" that = "nothing" to enable a permanent automatic change. I've been into the registry looking for an "OpenWithList" folder for files without an extension but can't find one. I do find a "." file but the programs listed are not wmplayer.exe. Do you have a clue where Windows ME has hidden this link? There's a setting for that in XTeq XSetup (actually a registry setting, XSetup is a handy registry hack tool) to (re)assign 'extensionless' files to 'Open with' dialogue. As Calrissian said "This deal is getting worse all the time." MalikTous - Thanks for the info. So the drill you are suggesting is to go download this "XSetup Pro" and somehow figure out how to get it to find the link between extensionless files and wmplayer.exe in my registry(?) |
