Solve : Files put in temporary folders lost- how do you recover them??

Answer»

A while ago, I ended up GETTING an update for my Vista computer. It installed a temporary user file on my computer that I was logged into.

Upon noticing that all my usual files were gone, I located them and moved them into the temporary user file, not realizing that the temporary user had been created. Of course, upon the next start up, the temporary user file had been removed, along with all my files.

I have years of work and important documents on the computer, and I any backup I have is outdated and obsolete. You can imagine how much these files mean to me, so I was understandably upset.

Is there any way to recover these files? I would appreciate any and all help. Why would you store your most important files in a 'temporary' folder? I'ts temporary!!
Temporary is a term that denotes a finite period of time, with a defined beginning and an end.How did you create the temporary user ? ?
What folder was created in this temporary user profile ? ?
ALTHOUGH Vista can do some funky things from time to time it won't just randomly delete a User Profile without som e sort of prompting...
I'm afraid we are gonna need some more details on what exactly has transpired leading up to this dilemna.Quote from: Mulreay on MAY 08, 2009, 05:58:42 PM

I didn't realize it was a temporary folder. It was installed by Vista during an update, and I thought my files had simply been moved. I put them "back" thinking that it was my usual folder.Quote from: patio on May 08, 2009, 06:45:09 PM

Vista was installing updates, but I GUESS something went wrong and it installed a temporary user until it configured the settings. It didn't delete my user profile. It simply moved it.never heard of this.it probably used a different user account to perform the updates... not a temporary one.

Most updates require administrator rights and IIRC the DEFAULT accounts created are Limited User accounts. You'll likely need to log-on as the administrator instead of your usual account to try to find the files.
