Solve : Event Viewer: How many errors and warnings are too many??

Answer»

While MESSING around trying to solve my problem in the post immediately below, I went into my Event Viewer and discovered 256 ERRORS and warnings. I've had this computer 5 days. Is that an usually high number for 5 days of usage? Some of the errors are dated 3 months before I got the computer. Does this mean there were errors in the initial installations? This is a great place to look for problems. But your system is probably FINE unless you are here looking because you feel there is a problem. Warnings usually repeat a lot, while the CRITICAL ones in RED should have immediate attention to figure out why. Clicking on each one you can find out more information. Do you have any critical ones and if so what are they alerting you to?

Once I saw a Hard Drive was getting ready to fail in a series of warning messages that repeat about malfunction. I backed up my data on that drive and a few days later the500GB Maxtor drive crashed. No, there aren't any in read.  A great number of them appear to be abut a failed extract of third-party root list from Windows update.  The reason I was even looking in there was because of the ctrl key problem I posted below.  Unless there is a specific need to look in Event Viewer, you are best off staying out of it and not worrying about what is there. What protection apps are on that PC ? ?
