Solve : DVD drive not working?

I have a hewlett packard XL766 model with a CD Combo I baught a few years
ago with Windows 98 SE when i place a DVD in the drive the player will run
for a few seconds then quit when i CLICK my computer click the drive letter
error message pop up saying N:\is not accessible the device is not
ready does that with every type of CD i put in should i just install
a new dvd drive
Exactly how many years is "a few"? Optical drives aren't KNOWN for their long lifespans.To FIND out if it is the drive swap it in to a known working machine and see if it does the same THING...if so it's the drive.Quote from: nathan3013 on May 12, 2007, 11:13:30 PM

Sounds like more than a couple of years. XP has been out for six....
