Solve : dual layer dvd burn won't burn second layer? |
|
Answer» i have an INTERMITTENT problem burning dual layer dvd's. the second layer will not burn. i am using windows XP on a dell dimension 8250. i have tried different media, 5 different burning programs, 3 different dual layer burners with no change. sometimes they burn just fine, then i start losing disks for no apparent reason. i have de-fraged the hard drive regularly, un-installed & re-installed the programs and picked EVERY brain that i know. HELP!!!More info on the machine in question; the programs tried; the operating system and how much RAM and free HDD SPACE you have and someone will be along shortly...The machine is a Dell Dimension 8250, purchased in '01, w/ a Pentium(R)4 @ 3.06 Ghz & 512 (rambuss) RAM. The os is XP home edition. The HDD 149GB total cap w/ 66.3 GB used and 82.6 GB free. the orig cd/dvd BURNER was a NEC, model unknown, the second is a Plextor PX-760A, the other is a Sony DRU-840A. Programs used are Nero 7 ultra edition, DVD Fab Platinum, ASHAMPOO, eMetrix Clone DVD 4, and I have had the most success w/ Slyfox Clone DVD 2 used w/ Slyfox AnyDVD . A common story. I have an LG dvd burner which is dual layer capable, and I tried 4 or 5 brands of dual layer disk: they all failed at the start of the 2nd layer, except Verbatim. So I buy them. Many people have found the same thing. Personally I'll STICK with single layer until Blu-ray gets cheap enough. i have lost approx 100 dl discs over the last year. that is a lot of money gone to coasters!!! Maybe you should think of ditching the burner. If you have burned e.g. several hundred disks the burn laser could be weak. You could have bought a number of DL burners with that money. have tried new burner(s) and still have the same problem after only a few discs burned. a friend has taken my file(s) and burned them with little or no problem. the problem appears to be in my computer somewhere. THE QUESTION IS WHERE!?!? |
