Solve : DOS Keeps Crashing!?

Okay, so I'm not too FAMILIAR with DOS, but I know enough that something is wrong here. When I use the run box to open a "CMD" window, the

prompt opens, loads, and then closes in about 2 seconds total. This only happens when I use cmd, as command and command.com still function

properly to the best of my knowledge... Also, upon using "ping" for an IP or a website, the prompt freezes and then closes. Is this the result of a

script error or something more along the lines of a VIRAL problem. This has been going on for a while now and is QUITE annoying. Any help/advice
