Answer»

hi,

hope SOMEONE can help, long story but here goes.
we have a pc bought from mesh computors
os system xp home

been having trouble recently so tried there restore to factory sttings option(worked in past) wouldnt work so phoned them they said my partitions had become infected so told me to do the following.

download sata drives (which they sent me) then install there recovery DISK using f6 to install sata drives all went ok but pc does not seem ok will not defrag c at all,

when i tried to formatt using xp pro disk i have when i get to this point

Next the partition setup will appear, it is recommended that if a partition already exists and you do not plan on having multiple operating systems on the computer that you delete the existing partition before continuing the setup. You will know if a partition exists if you see ANYTHING other then "Unpartitioned space".

it says there is nothing there. no partitions nothing on disk

Why  is it something they do to stop you buying another system.

i know have c with 8 mg partition want to know if i formatt in dos completely will the xp PR disk work will i be able to boot from disk or not?

really peeved spent 8hrs LAST night and still not right help!!!!!! Quote

I hope someone can help. It's a long story, but here goes.

We have a PC bought from Mesh Computers with XP Home.

We've been having trouble recently, so tried their Restore to Factory Settings option which worked in the past. No go, so telephoned them and they said my partitions had become infected and told me to do the following...

Download SATA drivers (which they sent me) then reinstall using their recovery disk and using the F6 key to install the SATA drivers.

All went OK but the PC does not seem to be OK as it will not defrag drive C: at all.

When I tried to format using the XP Professional CD I  have when I get to this point . ?

Next the partition setup will appear: "It is recommended that if a partition already exists and you do not plan on having multiple operating systems on the computer that you delete the existing partition before continuing the setup. You will know if a partition exists if you see anything other than 'Unpartitioned space'."

It says that there is nothing there. No partitions, nothing on disk.

Why? Is it something they do to stop you buying another system?

I know that I have a drive C: partition with 8 mg MB or GB ? partition and would like to know if I format in DOS will the XP Professional disk work and will I be able to boot from the disk or not?

Really peeved! Spent 8 hours last night and still not right. Help!

Is that 8 GB, and how much free-space is on drive C: ?
If that is some sort of recovery partition you may need that to restore from a CD. I am assuming they didn't give you a "real" Windows CD. How about calling them and asking what that partition is for?
