Answer» Hi there,
I have a fairly new computer with Windows XP and up until yesterday it was running perfectly but then when I started it up I received the following error message:
"Windows cannot find C:\windows\system32\dnuadum\csrss.exe"
Can someone please give any advice on how to resolve this?
Thanks,
LisaSounds like it could be a virus...
SECURITY Task ManagerHi,
Thanks for your reply. I downloaded that software and ran it but the problem still persists. Is there any way to replace the missing file?
Thanks,
LisaVirus scanners AVG Free -- Anti virus scanner Trend Micro Housecall -- Online anti virus scanner.
Anti spy/MALWARE Microsoft Antispyware -- Anti spyware scanner. Windows XP Home and Professional only. Spybot Search & Destroy -- Anti spyware scanner Adaware SE Personal -- Anti spyware scanner
Firewalls Use both a hardware and software firewall. Be advised as dual software firewalls may cause problems
ZoneAlarm Free -- Free firewall - more user friendly Sygate Personal -- Free firewall - more configuration options
Removal tools The following files are not substitutes for the ones described above. They are either diagnostic tools or removal tools for malware of a certain kind
HijackThis -- Manual malware remover. Post the HijackThis log generated only if requested! McAfee Stinger -- Virus removal tool. No substitute for a fully functional virus scanner! CWshredder -- CoolWebSearch removal tool. Widely known and persistant Hijacker.Hi there,
Thanks again for a very prompt reply! I have downloaded all the antispyware ect and run it all but when i start up my computer I am still getting those error messages. However, apart from that the computer is running perfectly and according to all the scans I have run my computer is not infected with anything!
Is there a way to replace this missing csrss file because it keeps telling me the path is incorrect and windows cannot find it.
Thanks again,

Quote Process File: csrss or csrss.exe Process Name: Microsoft Client/Server Runtime Server Subsystem Description: csrss.exe is the main executable for the Microsoft Client/Server Runtime Server Subsystem. This process manages most graphical commands in Windows. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.
Note: csrss.exe is also process which is registered as the [email protected] worm, the W32.Webus Trojan, Win32.Ladex.a and more. This virus is distributed via the Internet through e-mail and comes in the form of an e-mail message, in the hopes that you open it’s hostile attachment. The worm has it’s own SMTP engine which means it gathers E-mails from your local computer and re-distributes itself. In worst cases this worm can allow attackers to access your computer, stealing passwords and personal data. It is a registered security risk and should be removed immediately. Please see additional details regarding this process
.
You have scanned for Viruses and Trojan Horses? You are using Norton with the latest definitions? Has CRCSS.EXE requested Internet access in the past?

I feel the best thing to do is to put your Operating CD and run a repair installation this will not effect your data, or you could put the error message into Google search this sometimes will give the answer. I think the best bet would be to run a repair installation.Yeah, I'm using Norton, and all latest updates of various trojan removal software. I only bought this computer in August and until now, had no problems with it. I had never even heard of CSRSS before then!

Did your firewall block nothing?
What has led to this issue? Have you removed any files?
