bought a gateway laptop mod #600YGR W/ xp pro 1-2cpu{used} occasionally wouldnt power up only the fan comes on .the button that tells it when the laptop is closed came out yesterday so i took the FRONT off to see what happened when i put it back together booted fine next boot it hung at the bios SCREEN now back to no power on just the fan comes on what is wrong with this crazy machine??? please help my daughter needs it for school in a week thanksWhat do you mean when you SAID the button fell out?
Did it actually come out or did it get stuck?

Also, when you took off the cover, exactly what did you do?the small button has a small metal plate on one side of it and it actually came off button plate and all
i just replaced the btoon and plate and it booted fine one time only
Hmmm.....During the one time, what did you do? (downloads, installs, ect...)

Now exactly what happens when you press the power button?the one time it did boot all i did was play a game that was already on it for about 10 min when u press the power button all you see or HEAR is the fan come on .In the BIOS, check to make sure the Hard drive is detected.

I would then open the laptop up again and make sure you didn't disconnect anything.

cant get to the bios nothing happens i just hear the fan come on and thats all. i will check to make sure i didnt disconnect anything. thank you SOO much
