I couldn't turn on my windows firewall and a 'X' marks appears on the icons in the start


[recovering disk space, attachment deleted by admin]Did you make any changes (software installation or removal, Windows UPDATES, etc.) just before this HAPPENED? What protection apps (anti-virus, anti-malware) are you using?

Why did you do that? I suggest you reinstall it and see whether that resolves the problem. Quote

Windows 8 COMES with its own AV called Windows Defender. If you decide to install another AV, you will need to disable Windows Defender.

Is this the way you tried to turn on the Firewall?
