Pentium 4 3.2ghz 1024mb of ram GeForce FX 5500 256mb AGP vid card Maxtor 160gb hdd Brand new 480W power supply
Here's the problem. Whenever I try to go into standby, the screen goes black for about 5 seconds, then goes back to the desktop. I've closed all programs and disabled all network connections and it still does the same thing. Any help?Eh, can't edit my post. Forgot to put that I'm using Windows XP Professional with service pack 2. Control Panel Power Settings icon click it and adjust it....to never on all options.....ALSO if you knock the mouse/keyboard it will resume from standby......?No, my computer won't go into standby when I want it to. When I click on it, the screen goes black like it's going in to standby, but then it goes back to the desktop. Are you SPYWARE and virus free? Can you adjust your power settings to GET this to work? have you been keeping up with your Windows Updates?

And has Standby ever worked on this particular PC before? If it has, do you have an idea what may have changed?
Regards, DocCome to think of it, I don't think standby ever has worked on this pc. I am spyware and virus free. I am up to date on windows.
Flame: When I go to power options and select for it to go to standby in 1 minute, nothing happens, even after 5 minutes.
Any help will be appreciated.EDIT: I wasn't up to date on XP after all, my auto updates were turned off. I have 11 critical updates. I'll download them then try again and post back here.Nope, still no luck.Did you read Merlin's post carefully? Control Panel>Power Settings

If you are using an optical mouse, be certain that it is not placed on a reflecting surface or a surface that is slightly tilted. That just turns the monitor off. And no, my mouse isn't on a reflective surface.Ok, the computer will not go into Standby under time... What if you click on Start -> Turn off computer -> Standby ? Does it do the same thing?
[glb]Flame[/glb]Yup, does the exact same thing. Same with HIBERNATION.I never use Hibernation nor standby since turning off the computer saves power, but you may need to configure the BIOS.
