Solve : Computer screen freezes? |
|
Answer» Problem: ...The only thing I haven't tried changing is the motherboard and CPU. ...I even tried different operating systems, nothing worked. Kapil: That's one i've not tried: Swapping out the OS! I believe that means some hardware is to blame. It might help us to be sure if you answer a few questions: * Can you think of anything that might have changed just prior to the problem OCCURRING? A new software program? A new hardware device? * Also, are you using the original video controller, or have you added a new video card? * Did you check for the problem just after you installed the new operating system, or did you check for the problem after you installed the OS and some software programs? Let us know, Doc Here are the answers to the questions in order: * The only new hardware I installed was the wireless keyboard and mouse. I know that it didn't contribute to the freezing of the computer because the problem occured well after teh installation. * I bought a used video card about two years ago but when this problem occured I removed it and formated the hard drive. So now I'm using the on-board VGA video. * The problem started while I had Windows XP as my OS. I have tried every Windows OS other than Windows 95. But every time I install a new OS the same problem occurs, my screen freezes and the mouse stops responding as well as the keyboard. My guess is that my drivers are giving me this problem. I dunno, I'm really stuck here. There is one important thing though, my video card is an all-in-wonder TV tuner card. One time when the computer froze, the TV was still going on and everything else stopped. This doesn't happen with other video files are playing, they just hang. With the exemption of some MPEG files, all other media files e.g., AVI, MP3, MOV etc. are the ones that cause this problem. Even with some websites that have ads cause the freeze, for instance, www.excite.com and www.canadasys.com have some animation ads, I think flash or something, that cause the freeze. Any tip would be greatly appreciated. Thnaks,How have you reformatted the Hard Disk Drive? You should obtain disk management software from your Hard Disk Drive manufacturer and write zeroes to the entire Hard Disk Drive before reformatting. The only disk manager software that I have is bootit NG from the web. It just makes PARTITIONS and formats the hard drive. I only choose one partition and then format the drive. I think that I have Seagate, but I'm not sure. I'll try to DOWNLOAD the disk management software from the website. There is one more thing that I would like to add though, the computer also freezes when I boot it up after a few hours or the other day. But when I press the reset but and it reboots, it turns on ok. After that it only freezes when I try to play multimedia files or some sites with flash plugin. I greatly appreciate your help. If you are certain that you have a Seagate, make use of the following tool: DiscWizard Starter Edition Writing zeroes to the Hard Disk Drive completely destroys all data present, but is not harmful to the Hard Disk Drive. It may also take a very long time. It will at least eliminate software problems. If the problem stil occurs, you know it is not the software. |
