Answer» I am new here and I just deleted my post.
My computer is dialing up to the internet on its own. I just put a new hard-drive in and a new dial-up modem. It dials up say in the morning after I started the computer.
I have to shut it off every night. I can't put in on stand-by, because the moden when I go to control panel click on PHONE and modems the modem is not present.
I leave the computer on all day and then when I am not on-line for a while, the computer just dials-up.
I like to have the dial-up set so I didn't have to put the password in every-time. But now I can't do that because the computer dials-up and goes on-line.
So I have it set so I have to put the password in and the computer still dials-up, but now it can't connect. It tries THREE times every 60 seconds, and then it just SITS there and waits until I either cancel it or press re-dial.
And I tried this "Never dial a connection" It doesn't do any good. Is automatic update turned on ? ? Or is your email prograam set to check for new mail... These would be the first 2 PLACES to check. The automatic update is turned on. And the e-mail automatically checks for up-dates when I log on.Both of them then are trying to connect without you telling them to... That's what they do. If it's a problem they can both be dis-abled with no harm to your system...
