Solve : computer does not recognize a drive?

Answer»

After a BROWNOUT last week, my computer no longer sees one of my hard diskdrives that it did acknowledge before, namely the E drive. When I go into my computer and click on E, the legend reads E is not formatted. Help  More info operating system and specs............new drive old drive?I have a DELL Pentium 4 and use xp home for my operating system. I bought the computer in Feb., 2005 I use COMPUTERS but I certainly don't understand them. I hope this is the info you needed.
GailWhat does disk management reveal.......control panel admin tools.......>Okay, I went to accessaries and then to system tools. Is that where i'm supposed to look?
This MAY help more>http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308424&sd=tech
Okay, I brought up the page you suggested but when I clicked on the specific area nothing happened. I tried troubleshooting but got nothing. :-/< snipped from pd ms web help > Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Click Performance and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management. In the console tree, click Disk Management.

NOTE: You can also click Start, point to Run, type diskmgmt.msc, and then click OK.
Got it! It does list E drive but does not have a file system listed - its blank. Does that mean all the info on the drive is gone? I know if I format E now I will lose what was on it.
GailIs the e drive the slave drive......or the master......I'm pretty sure it is a slave drive
GailI would advise this if you are sure! right click on the my computer icon.....then click properties.....then hardware tab....then the device manager. now  click the + sign next to it......does the e drive appear.....yes/no  if yes  uninstall  itand reboot pc.......if this is to much for you......i would suggest you find somene to remove the drive from the tower case.....
