When I boot up my computer it displays the desktop background, however the start menu, taskbar, and all the desktop items do not appear for about ten minutes or so. Any CLUE how to fix this.Laptop or Desktop? Did it happen suddenly/recently? Please PROVIDE computer specs/model/brand.
Things like this could come from most part are softwares installed. Systems scanner running, AV(using 2), Infections or corrupted OS. Is there any pointer turning to hourglass during slow booting?Desktop. Emachines Windows XP It happened when I got a virus. I already got help from one of the volunteers to get rid of it.  I'm not sure if its from all the programs I had to download to get rid of it.Did you finish the procedures and get a clean BILL of HEALTH from the Experts ? ?
If I were you, I would back up my data, reinstall the OS and applications, and then it should be faster. When you keep a computer for a few years, it gets very slow because of all the junk from the browser cache and unnecessary applications.
