Solve : Clean vs Ruin due to Temp?

Answer»

Just a note that is common sense but my mistake shows how EASILY it can be overlooked. I started formatting and adding windows to a new drive and it came time to load up Office XP Pro. Trouble was that when I found my CD it was clear on one side but other 1/2 was so dirty I knew it was no way it would load. So, planning on cleaning it, I remember my CD cleaner is in my truck console after last use. I go outside to get it and think... "Brrrr.... it done got cold out here", but grab the cleaner and come back inside. When I came home earlier it was 65 deg, many hours later TV says it's now 28 deg, that explained that, lol. But Goof..... I then cleaned the CD several times and tried to install... it wouldnt. I cleaned again, it still wouldnt. I then finally looked closly at back of cd and discovered that while originally only 1/2 was dirty, now... the whole CD was scratched badly. It dawned on me... the gentle foam layer that normally cleans your CD by more or less sucking up the particles into it was acting in the reverse effect, at below freezing the foam is Much stiffer than normal. Instead of allowing the dirt to push up into the foam, the foam was not giving and FORCING the dirt to circulate around/on top of the CD, thereby scratching it badly. Granted that even if I had waited 4 hours or microwaved the cleaner, I could have still had a bad disc but 1/2 of disc was perfect before cleaning while after whole disc looked much cleaner but also like Krueger's kitty kat had gotten a hold of prob only 1 per mil folks actually would ever clean their cd's by an apparatus thats frozen but just wanted to warn against.I'll keep that in mind.

Did you get a ID-10-T error? If you contact Microsoft they may send you a replacement CD with a story like that.  I woulda thought very fishy myself if had read it, but unfortunatly, it really happened. Messages.. The only one that keeps haunting me is the one that said " You Dumb A$$". As for contacting Microsoft... I KINDA agree, it would be an interesting thing to see if they would replace the CD, but in reality, I know it would TAKE 4-ever and I do have it on another hard drive, if I can find... its in a cabinet somewhere.. kitchen or bathroom?.. or did I go theft proof and hide inside one of my AC ducts? Hmmm, lol Quote
