Solve : Certain video players freeze computer?

Answer»

Please help, I desperately need access to certain videos for school and this problem will not go away.

Ok, so certain videos (Windows Media Player and QuickTime) don't seem to work on my computer even though they are both installed. Flashplayer on the other hand works fine.

When I CLICK to play a WMP or QT video, it goes to play it and stops all the SUDDEN and freezes my computer. Actually it doesn't completely freeze it. The mouse works but everything is slowed down and nothing will click. All that will work is the Windows Task Manager, but it is even very slow and won't close out right away. Also the words on the screen and on the Task Manager flash one WORD at a time from left to right which is REALLY weird.

I have upgraded my RAM (1GB)
I've defraged my disk that has 63.3 GB of Free Space
It won't work in IE or Firefox
I have the latest version of QT
Also, I may not have Genuine Windows if that matters.
I'm out of ideas.

Please help

It may. Also I should note RealPlayer, which doesn't ask to authenticate windows, doesn't work.

Last thing (if anyone cares), audio files using WMP and QT work fine, it's just the videos that kill it.See, if VLC Player will work.VLC won't work either. If fact I just downloaded it and tried to play a video and the Windows Task Manager didn't even come up when I tried. So I just reset the computer to GET it running again. You reinstalled Windows?I've been asking around and someone told me to download drivers for my video card. (This may seem obvious to some of you, but I didn't know to do this)

That fixed the problem, every video player works fine now.

Thank you Broni for replying.
Very well.
