Answer» Hello, first time post here. I'm on Windows ME and have a CD Rom Drive and a CD BURNER. The CD Rom Drive started palying up by not reading a disk when it was placed in it and then it has progressed to the stage that when you open the CD drawer it will open and then close immediately. If your quick and get a disk in the drive then it will start up and make NOISES that it is being read but this just goes on and on. Clearly the drive is GETTING power but thats about it. Thanks BruceMTry cleaning the drive with a suitable CD drive cleaner. This does sound LIKE mechanical failure unfortunately. The good news is that replacement CD (or DVD) drives are now pretty cheap.
