Answer» I'm having problems connecting to certan websites. Some tell me I need Active-X?! Others times i get a message the says my security settings dont allow me to view this site. Other time i click on a link and a new internet explorer window opens and nothing loads and the screen stays white. Also everytime I try to save a website as a favorite i get a message the read something like: Cant not save the file " Website name" Catastropic FAILURE.
Im sure all this has to to with my system crashing sometime ago but I restored it. I had to recover it by using the copy sytem32/ commads ( excuse me for not remebering the exact commands, but maybe like all my applications that i had to reload, do i now have to adjust my internet options as well ??Dazed and confused...
Thanks in advance. You gave have been great......Not knowing the exact problems you had or have, I'd suggest you do one of two things:
1) Do a repair install of the OS (boot to the XP CD and choose the SECOND repair OPTION and allow XP to install on top of itself) or 2) Try a different browser (Firefox, for example)Just ta bring ya up to speed:
Originally my computer crashed and I was getting the message below:.
Stop: C0000218 ( Registry file failure ) The registry cannot load the hive ( file ) \systemroot\system32\config\software or its log or alternate
I was instructed to do use the commands below to fix my pC and it worked.
ren c:\windows\system32\config\software software.old copy c:\windows\repair\software c:\windows\system32\config
However internet usage has been strain, since. You u say I should perfrom an XP Repair. Why dont you try using a different browser.
If still doesnt work and since you already had your registry hive corrupted, then i think it would be better to follow the suggestion from Alan.
Quote Do a repair install of the OS (boot to the XP CD and choose the SECOND repair option and allow XP to install on top of itself) Sounds good. I will give it a try ASAP. You PEOPLE have been great. Thanks again.
When you replaced the software hive with the original you essentially brought the pc back to the day the OS was installed and no software had been installed.I tried the XP CD repair process and everything appears back to normal ! Thanks you GUYS rock ! ! Glad you got it sorted out.
