Answer» When trying to open an Excel file on a floppy DISC, an error message reads: "file" cannot be accessed. The file may be read-only or you may be trying to access a read-only location. Or the server the document is stored on may not be responding. "
However, no problem opening other Excel files on the same floppy. Please help. Right click and see if the options that are tagged (Read only, etc) are different from the others.
Did open properties & the box for "Read Only" isn't checked. There is one big difference: In the properties window, on top, there should be three tabs: General, Custom & Summary. This defunct file, however, shows only one TAB, General. What do I do? :-/Do the other files have three tabs and the file you can not open only one?
Were these Excel files created with a newer or older version of Microsoft Excel (Assuming it's MS Excel)?YES, the other files have 3 tabs. The one I cannot open has one only:GENERAL
All files on the same floppy were created using Microsoft Excel 2000.You receive a "<Filename> cannot be accessed...may be read-only" error message when you attempt to save a file in Excel 2000 (Click)
This may also somewhat be related:
