Solve : Cannot download an Excel Attachment? |
|
Answer» I have received an Excel attachment I want to open and download. When I click the download link, a window pops up that asks me how I want to download the program. There are many program options but Excel is not one of them. I have tried 3 browsers and various other things. I have Excel on my Windows 10 program - do not know why I don't see that option. I have tried typing "Microsoft Excel" into the search bar but I get a window saying that option does not exist. I have received an Excel attachment ...So, you received an Excel file as an attachment to an email MESSAGE, right? If so, then why would you need to "click the download link"? "Click the download link" indicates the file is still on a website, not actually attached to an email message. Quote from: feber16 on February 25, 2016, 09:45:02 AM There are many program options but Excel is not one of them.Again, it the file was attached to an email message, you would not see "many program options", the file would simply be whatever type of file the sender attached to the message. What are the file type options you see when you click the download link? What version of Excel do you have? When I click on the attachment, I get a window saying "Preview of this file is not supported". Below that is a download link. When I click on the download link, I get a window saying "How would you like to open this file". There is a long list of programs - Word, Notepad, IE, Paint, Adobe ETC etc. Nothing that will work with this. I noticed that the extension is xlsx. Could that be the problem? Should it say xls? I have received these attachments from the sender previously with no problem. I contacted the sender to make sure she had sent it correctly. She sent it a second time and it was no different. I don't know anything about extentions. Is she able to send it as xls only? Would that make a difference?Do you have Office 10 (or later) installed? .xlsx is an Office 10 file. If you don't, ask the sender to save it as a .xls file and send that.Yes, I have Windows 10.I said OFFICE 10, not Windows 10 - but sorry, I meant Office 2010.Unless you have Office 2007 or later, you will not be able to view a file with an xlsx extension unless you download a compatibility pack from MS. What version of Office do you have on your computer? I believe you are ATTEMPTING to Open the file not download it. You should be able to download or save the file to your computer without selecting a program to open it with, then after that worry about which program will be used to open it. |
