a family member gave me his notebook to fix, but he had allready DELETE the hard drive then trying to reinstal windows but it wont work i have tried everthing i know and still can't fix it can i get help plz. itsa VAIO
here is what i know when you start up the notebook you get an error:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\system32\hal.dll
Please re-install a copy OOF the above file

i have fully deleted everything again but here is still programs on the notebook. I have tried to install windows but i stops at 90% and SAYS it has a error. i have tried to format the dirve but it stopes at 90%. When i try to get in the the corrupt file is says access denied, the same happens when iu try to delete it.

And then copy any necessary files over.

thanx i will try themnone worked but i did get:
the volume apperas to contain one or more unrecoverable problems

for the chkdsk comand

is there any onther WAY?
