Answer» I've run into a problem...My disc drive does not read anything but cd's I have burned on it. not games, other music or even programs?(Dell Application tools,..or even reinstallation dics) anyone have a CLUE?First suggestion is to clean the CD drive. Get a CLEANING kit that will remove dust and DEBRIS from the laser lens.load the disk and then......right click on the drive its in.....now chose open with........And, after a week, I reply: I think you may have a misaligned drive (mechanical or electrical). Reading only what you can write indicates this. If so, you can repair it for about 5 times the cost of a BRAND spankin' new one. DellIt looks like we have a hit-and-run. You are correct about the laser alignment. Writable media has a track built in that the laser can zero in on and use for tracking. Stamped CD's do not have that track. Sometimes cleaning corrects the problem, sometimes you are just SOL.
