Answer» Greetings After many years we are finally buying a new computer I currently work on a Compaq Pentium 3!
I use a computer at home for surfing, writing letters (glorified typewriter), scanning photos and printing. I don't play games, I don't download music. However, I want the capability of burning CDs for backup and data storage.
We like HP and have been looking at the A1510N and A1520N with a Viewsonic VA912B monitor, an HP 5440 printer and a Canon scanner. I can't find any online reviews for either of these two HP models. Has anyone read any reviews or have any experience with these? Thank you!Personally I would SUGGEST not buying an HP system, which is just a personal preference I know but I have never had anything but problems with them.
If you want a name brand, I would go with a DELL XPS system or a Sony VAIO. If you like VERY good systems, go to GLOBAL Computer (www.globalcomputer.com) and look at their Systemax systems. We have used these at my place of business for 8 years and have NEVER had one problem with them. Plus, they are anywhere from 200 to 500 dollars cheaper.
Global Computer is the same as TigerDirect (www.tigerdirect.com) BTW.
As your needs do not seem excessive, you could probably get by just fine with adding a d CDRW to your existing system. Cost about $30.
Nonetheless, if you want to buy a system new, and are not a gamer, then any of the major players should do fine for you. The name BRANDS offer less possibilities for expansion, but if you are hearing this for the first time, it probably doesn't matter. Those HP models are bought by many.
