Solve : Broken File Associations?

Answer»

My computer won't let me open anything (Exept for Internet, it's like "What program do you want to RUN this with" and at the bottom is says "Browse the web" and I can click on that and it works. But Microsoft Outlook, Calculator, Microsoft word, nohing. As far as I know, nothing led up to this. But this computer does have several accounts, so maybe one of my family members did something, although it is highly unlikely. My comuter's firewall is up, ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4.2 is on, Spyware and unwanted software protection is up.Please provide some information on your system, including the OS and what led up to the PROBLEM (ie, new hw, sw, virus, etc).

Also, this is a support forum - almost everyone who posts here is looking for help. It would be helpful if in the FUTURE you use a subject that is related to your question or problem. Thank you. There, I updated it. That's pretty much all I know. Please do not edit posts to ANSWER questions, just post your reply BELOW the question.

And again, what OS?

And did you run a full system scan with your AV? If not, please do so.

And I renamed the thread to something relevant (instead of "My computer is being weird")OKAY, first of all, you could be alot nicer. Second, oh, I'm so sorry. Third, what the heck is an OS? And fourth, does it really matter?

OS stands for Operating System. He's asking which version of Windows you have. Like Windows 7, or Windows Vista, or XP.

And fourth, does it really matter?

Yes. It really matters. Really really...

Do the other user accounts have the same problem? Is there only one account being weird?Sounds like you need to fix the .exe assocation. I found a handy program a while back that did it for me, but I can't find it any more.

I think it was the one on this webpage under Step 1 but it has been a while back since I used it: http://filext.com/faq/broken_exe_association.php Quote from: Glitter on January 19, 2012, 04:57:46 PM
Okay, first of all, you could be alot nicer.

I don't think so. I don't think ANYONE could be nicer than I've been to you so far - exactly what is it that you have a problem with? Quote from: Raptor on January 20, 2012, 04:59:46 AM

I haven't told him how to fix the file associations yet because we need to know what OS he is running - that's the primary reason I've been asking.
