Solve : Block all web sites except a few / free isp?

Answer»

Hello,

I don't know anything whatsoever about the internet, but I was wondering if there is a way to block all the web sites on the internet except a few no matter what web browser i am using.

I want to show my dad that i can use the internet without getting into trouble so that he will at least let me have internet access.

Also, is there really such thing as a free ISP? I did a google search and it came up with a search engine to search by zip code for a free isp.
I'd suggest something like CyberPatrol's Internet safety software. Or you might like to refer your dad to >K9 Web Protection< (free).Read up on how to use a hosts file and then PRESENT your findings to him...this should impress him somewhat.I thought about mentioning the hosts file, but thought some approach that ALLOWS password control by his dad might be best. If using the hosts file for this purpose, how can junior be prohibited from editing it? Could he be restricted by dad using a passworded ADMIN account to edit the hosts file and child using a limited account when using the computer?Depending on the setup there are a few methods for locking down a host file...and yes i agree dad should ultimately have the final say. Also, you might want to just go with a web filter (I think that cyber patrol will do)

They will block all inapropriate sites from viewing, and that might be a better solutionAye, which is what K9 does, for free. Quote

Aye, which is what K9 does, for free.
Is that what you use for your family, Rob?
Does it use some kind of update service, or read special tags, or filter out language, or what?
Christmas is so close.....Make it count.

I got the below results by searching-'Free Isp Botkins Ohio'

http://www.findanisp.com/isps/OH/botkins-ohio-isp-directory/14071/

Your age and how responsible you ACT would determine a lot.

If you don't search for cults-drugs-perverts-nudity ETC....

Never use any words your parents don't like at the dinner table
when searching the internet and all should be fine.

Hope you get it.Everyone deserves it,who can be responsible.

Robert...........Don't call me Bob! SNAP!Such a hosts file would be HUGE and would slow the system to a crawl. As has been said, some form of "cyber nanny" program would be more useful.
