Solve : BIOS Security tab missing !!?

Answer» HI All,
I'm still running Windows XP but plan on changing to Windows 8.1   It appears that to do so my PC must have NX capability.    Currently that is not the case but I've been told that the NX capability may well be there but it hasn't been enabled and that this can be DONE by accessing the security tab in the BIOS.   Well, I can't find a security tab in the BIOS !!

What am I missing?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Art Windows 8.1 requires PAE, NX, as well as SSE2. Essentially you'd need a Pentium 4 or Later or an equivalent AMD chip (Athlon 64, I believe) or later. If you can provide any details about your System it could be helpful.

It may be that your System would not gain much from a Windows 8.1 upgrade. Thanks for your reply.
I think you are right. My system has Pentium Dual core processor E5200 252GHz.

Looks like a change is due.

The Dual Core is quite a bit newer than the Pentium 4 and supports all those requirements. How are you determining that No-Execute is not supported currently?

Some information  that may help:

System requirements - Windows 8.1

If you want to RUN Windows 8 on your PC, here's what it takes:
Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with support for PAE, NX, and SSE2
    RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver

Again, thanks for your help.
I ran the "coreinfo" program and it  indicated that NX was not enabled.   Apparently it sometimes exists but has not been enabled and this can be checked by accessing the Security tab in the BIOS.   This was my original query - that no Security tab shows up in the BIOS.

If, as you SAY, my processor is later than Pentium 4 then presumably I should be able to install Windows 8 but it appears I can only establish this by getting into the Security section of the BIOS.

Do you have any suggestions?

Regards

BIOS screens differ, so it was foolish of them to give you instructions that were so specific. You will have to look through the various BIOS screens available and look for an option such as "No-Execute Memory Protect" or "Execute-disable bit capability", or "Execute disable" etc.
