Solve : Annoying IE8 Pop Up with each boot? |
|
Answer» I have Windows XP SP3 it was a scan I believe when scanning for drivers in my machine. What kind of scan did you do?JJ, no Ie8 is not one of the update. Sorry I don't remember which scan I did. I have done so many since the reinstall which MADE my machine function WORSE than before. After the holidays I will try to run the scans again and let you know. It may have been a diagnosis scan. Quote from: Doc_Vibe on December 23, 2010, 08:59:32 PM I also have Windows XP and the SP-3 loaded on my puter. I don not use IE at all. I've even deleted it through add/remove Programs. Now, it does come back and reload itself into it's folder again, but it doesn't bother me at all and I do not D/L any of the Microsoft up-dates for IE. I use Firefox as my main browser and it works fine for me. I have to tell you, I really detest anything that comes from Microsoft these days. I have been around since the days Windows 3.1 and over the years, in my mind anyway, Microsoft has really gone down hill with their programming to the point of being negligent even. In fact the next puter I build will be Apple based. I know they have their problems too, but not to the extent of what Microsoft does. A couple of other things I will not use are: MSN Messenger, Hot mail, Yahoo Messenger (anything Yahoo actually) and I hate FaceBook. the only reason I keep FaceBook is so I can keep track of my kids. I do not use any of their apps. As I do have a life. Just out of curiosity, what kind of computer do you have - make, model & year? I use Firefox for my business transactions but like IE for my games as it loads them faster as well as the different applications of the games. Much faster than my Firefox. With Firefox I get a lot of 'Please Wait' and a lot of Flash crashes. Maybe this new update will stop so many flash crashes. My puter is a Dell Dimension 4700, 2005, so it is pretty old now by puter tech standards. I hear ya PattyBrew, I built this puter back in 2004 and it's been faithful and virtually problem free for the most part, so I understand "old computer" for sure. Where you use your browser for playing games, I simply don't play games on the puter per say. Now, I do have an account with Pogo.com and love that site just for the games (mainly Pool & Euchre) and if I'm going to play games, that's where you can find me. Other than that, I use my PS-3 for my Auto Racing Simulator only. I do not play any other type of game on the PS-3. I'm just a piston head. I have been for most of my life. I just got done a 20 year stint at Chrysler of Canada where I actually had a hand in building Richard Petty's new Challenger, (in Petty Blue - of course) Jay Leno's Challenger, Dr.Phill's Challenger and the $400,000.00 Challenger that crossed the Barrett - Jackson Auto auction on Speed Channel just last year. It was the first one built for the public and had the 000001 in the V.I.N. number. Sorry if I went a bit with that, but Like I said, I'm piston head. I can't really tell ya what kind of puter I have because I literally went to the warehouse and bought every little piece individually. The tower, the mother board, the C.P.U. and so on... Took it all home and in a few hours was up and RUNNING on the net. So, it's my own Frankenstein of parts & pieces. OK, enough about my bad habbits. Quote Maybe this new update will stop so many flash crashes. What update are you talking about there PattyBrew? Is that the Service pack 3 or an update for the browser? God Bless Doc Quote I really detest anything that comes from Microsoft these days. I have been around since the days Windows 3.1 and over the years, in my mind anyway, Microsoft has really gone down hill with their programming to the point of being negligent even. Oddly I was expecting to pull this link out at some point for Geek-9pm... oh well. In regard to the original question, it's asking to update the installed version of IE8. the popup isn't saying "update to IE8" as much as it's saying "update your IE8". Although I can't see this popup so I have no idea. You might be able to find and remove whatever is starting it with a tool like Autoruns. It's thorough which can make the output a bit intimidating. Mike Lin's Startup Control Panelis similar but excludes lots of the extra stuff (like boot time drivers and so forth) that probably wouldn't be that relevant. Follow. BC_Programmer because he is more experience But I like to ask do you try to uninstall ie8 and restore your earlier version of Internet Explorer ? and reinstall itI've actually had this stupid popup on my friends Win XP laptop and my XP VM on my Windows 7 Machine at home... Annoying as it can be, I used Unlocker to forcefully delete IE and all its counterparts, and I'm sure there is a registry key that auto-regenerates IE every time deleted, just like if you delete ntoskrnl.exe (Yes I know, hard to believe and stupid) It actually auto-creates itself if you ever try to delete it, right afterwards even if immediatley rebooted upon deletion or moving, (force-reboot, ACPI/Reset button press), the darn file still stays there. I've tried many methods and still MicroSoft keeps putting these files back. (I'm talking about IE here, was I not?) Any help would be great too. Oh, and I have IE 8 on that thing but it still asks me, even when I launch IE! ._. Quote from: moro on December 24, 2010, 01:37:43 PM Follow. BC_Programmer because he is more experienceMoro, no but during the initial installation from the disk SP2 installed first which had some IE 7 in it because I just did a search and found Welcome to IE7 and IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe So IE7 is on my machine. Seems od to me that it is there with IE8. I my Task Manager Progress there are 5 instances of internet explorer.exe. I really don't think that many is necessary but what causes that many to show up? Mostly there 3 which Is still too many I think.BC, Could I totally uninstall IE8 and then reinstall it from the website to remove all the IE8 processes and this popup? And what about the IE7?For Doc and dearGodpleasehelp, I want IE8 to use for play. I don't want to get rid of it. Microsoft does not trouble me being there at all. This problem and others started after I reinstalled Windows, which I should not have done. I should have just ran an repair, but I realized that way too late. The only game I play is a Ganz game called Webkinz for myself, friends and my grandkids. We have fun with it and it is a great learning tool for the kids and a fun escape from the stress of the day.LOL Doc, you are a true designer and artist. My dad was an auto mechanic and I love the smell of an auto shop. Brings back old memories. I used to tinker with mine until they all went computer. Can't look under the hood anymore and see where everything is, it is so compact.grin I would like to build a computer some day. I have been into mine a few times to clean and add memory cards. It is still a very good machine. I ran Everest and found out a lot in there that I did not know was there. Well, have fun and have a very Merry Christmas. Quote from: Doc_Vibe on December 24, 2010, 01:13:52 PM Doc the update I referred to is the newer ver of Firefox. Quote from: BC_Programmer on December 24, 2010, 01:26:56 PM
I ran the Autoruns and found many duplicate entries but not duplicates of IE8, mostly they were software like IObit 360 and of that sort. I do keep getting an error message that CDautorun is having a problem and IE must shut down. When doing system diagnosis I was tild to put CDAutorun at the top of the boot list. I was not told to move it down when finished so it is still there. Is that OK. I have Tweak Now Power Pack 2010 installed and on the Autoruns report it showed that my CDautorun is in that file.CDAutorun is starting Internet Explorer for some reason. When Internet Explorer starts it shows that update thing if there are available updates I believe. |
