Solve : After reformat of HD no display!!!!?

Answer»

Hello all, just looking for a little bit of help with an extra computer of mine. A friend gave it to me and it was built for him so it's not from the factory. WELL I wanted to reformat the HD so I could get all his stuff off of it, I have a Windows XP disc I was going to install, it already had XP. Well I went through the reformat fine but after that the computer will turn on but wont show any video. I'm sure it's the driver to the video card but I don't know what to do since I can't see anything, just wondering if anyone out there could help me. I'm pretty sure I'll have to take it somewhere to get fixed but thought I should try this first, thanx, ChuckIs Windows installed? What version?Yup, well it was installed before the reformat, but yes it was XP SP2Is Windows installed NOW?
How did you format HD?I imagine its on there now, I wanted to install XP Pro so I booted up from the disk, I deleted partitions then formatted, but after the format thats when the display stopped working, well about 2 minutes after that anyway, I figured with the generic video driver I wouldn't have a problem but that's not the case, unless it didn't have a generic video driver but it should, I don't know, something is going on What did you use to format HARD drive?
You need to install Windows to see anything.I had XP home edition on it these are my steps:
Inserted cd into cd drive
rebooted computer
cd booted and windows setup screen appeared
had the option to format HD & delete partitions
i chose delete partitions
made a new partition - and formatted it
after that the monitor went BLANK, the pc is still running but no display
what should've HAPPENED after the formatting was the installation of XP pro, but I don't know if that happened because I have no display
I hope this helps, and maybe I went about it the wrong way but these are the instructions I had, it's been a while since I've done it so I might've screwed something up
Oh another thing, it kept popping up (before I did anything to it) that this version of windows isn't genuine, I don't know if that was something, but that was my whole reasoning for putting a new XP pro onto itIt looks like you did OK.
Is your Windows CD legit?
Did you check monitor cable?
Is monitor light on?
