Answer» Hi All,
Our previous laptop went belly up after five years of use and so we need a new one. Please can anyone advise on what would be a good laptop to go for. Our budget is around the £300 mark and £360 absolute max. My wife and I aren't computer buffs at all and will only use the laptop for surfing, Hotmail and typing the odd letter (hence why we don't want to spend a fortune). As long as it's a laptop with a decent size screen and reasonably quick internet connection/page downloading times we'll be happy.
Thanks in advance for any advice/recommendations.
Grant, EnglandHi, If the new Laptop you are buying has Vista INSTALLED, make sure that it has at least 4 gig of memory, 3 gig minimum, same with Windows 7 coming out next month, or get XP if you can as it's still GREAT for a good few years yet. You should be able to buy a nice laptop with your budget, Dell, Acer, Toshiba, are all good, LAPTOPS are great, I find people tend to ditch their Desktops and get laptops these days as they are easier and take up less room, plus they don't require 400 + watts to RUN like Desktops do, just a power supply, good for the Planet etc PaulIf you really dont like to spend much, you can try netbooks nowadays. They're pretty popular and pretty cheap and will everything that you would need to do on a laptop. If you're good with screens ranging from 10.1 to 12.1 inches, then this would be your best bet. It would run around 300-450 usd depending on the screen size, processor, memory and battery that comes in with the computer. Quote Thanks in advance for any advice/recommendations. This is a very broad recommendation. Do not ever buy a laptop/notebook computer. Unless you really need a mobile computer.
- They cost more, have less performance.
- May give you a back ace from poor posture.
- Are hard to repair.
- Can do be readily upgraded.
- Are easily damaged.
Now a specific recommendation. Buy a Toshiba. You will like it.

Yeah if it's Win Vista 64. If it's 32 then you are wasting 1.2gb as it will only use 2.8gb.
