Here is a link to get you started. Okay, I am completely new at this whole internet thing ...So, you've NEVER searched for information by using a search engine/service such as Google.com, Yahoo.com, Bing.com, etc.? Searching on a phrase such as what is adslwill yield plenty of information on the subject. Anyway, here's a good reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ADSL Quote from: kyleo on December 15, 2010, 07:35:36 AM I was thinking of getting me uncapped internet from afrihost but in order for me to get it they said I need an adsl line and router... can someone explain to me ... the cheapest way to go when getting the adsl line and router?Well, afrihost should be able to answer those questions for you. After all, they are the service provider. I presume you live/work WITHIN their geographic area of service. But, afrihost should be able to confirm that for you. I'd call them back and simply ask whether their ADSL service is available in your area. A router is a device which allows using one incoming Internet line to be used by multiple computers. I am talking about small ROUTERS used in home or small business environments. Where only one computer will be used on an ADSL line, a router is usually optional. A modem, on the other hand, is a required device. Here, in Ohio, my ADSL service provider provided the modem I'm using. I bought a router since I have multiple computers using my Internet line. The router is connected to the modem and computers and my network-capable printer are connected to the router. Quote and router This is a box you plug all your computers into, or you can get wireless ones, and then plug the box into your broadband device (a "modem") so they can all share the service. They cost about 50 US dollars upwards; I don't know what that is in Rand. Why don't you just call 011 612 7200 and ask the guys at Afrihost? I'm sure they'd LOVE to help you so they can get your business. THis is the best way to get your questions answered. Quote I dont plan on being ripped off by a provider. by the way,be less arrogant and more helpful I think it's best he sees no other replies for Help...Thanx alot,I did my homework aswell and it will be set up as soon as I get home.
